Midlands law firm Sydney Mitchell has selected Marie Curie Solihull and Solihull Carer’s Trust as its 2025 charities of the year.
Both charities will share the total funds raised by the firm throughout 2025 from a programme of fundraising events and activities, including the flagship Sydney Mitchell Charity Ball on 10 October at the British Motor Cycle Museum, Birmingham.
Other events include a Charity Quiz, and staff activities at each of its offices in Birmingham, Solihull and Sheldon, such as dress down days, coffee mornings and cake sales.
From its Hospice on Marsh Lane, Marie Curie Solihull helps people with an illness they’re likely to die from, and the people close to them, receive specialist care and support for free. This includes Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, heart, liver or kidney and lung disease, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s and advanced cancer.
Its Community Fundraiser (West Midlands) Ben Thomas says: “We are delighted to be Sydney Mitchell’s chosen charity for 2025/26. The firm’s ongoing support, including the charity ball on 10th October, will make a vital contribution to closing the gap in end-of-life care.
“Every five minutes, someone, somewhere in the UK, dies without the care and support they need,” he explains, “but the money raised across the year will go directly to providing essential local services. Sydney Mitchell’s generosity will ensure more people receive the end-of-life care they deserve, and that their loved ones can find comfort and support from accessing Marie Curie services.”
Karen Moores, senior partner of Sydney Mitchell says: “Marie Curie Solihull and Solihull Carer’s Trust are both incredible local charities, providing vital support, care and resources for their local communities at what is the most difficult time of their lives, both for the patient and their family. The firm is honoured to be supporting them this year. While the focus of each fundraising event is on raising funds as well as awareness for both charities, the Sydney Mitchell LLP Charity Ball 2025 is a particularly special event and set to be a truly great night of entertainment with live music, casino tables and magic. I hope we will raise a significant amount of funds for both charities.”
Sydney Mitchell has supported Carers Trust Solihull charity for several years. The organisation provides vital help and support to carers in and around Solihull who are caring for loved ones with dementia, physical or mental health issues, or learning disabilities.
“For more than 260 years, Sydney Mitchell has had its local communities at its heart and supported their personal and business legal needs for generations,” says Karen Moores. “This is central to our culture, values and operation, and has obvious synergies with both of our chosen charities this year, which do so much for people and families in their own communities. I know that every member of our team, as well as clients, contacts and associates, will do all we can to raise funds for both of these incredible charities this year.”
