A settlement agreement is an agreement between and employer and employee in which an employee gives up any employment claims.
The advantage of doing a settlement agreement over going to an employment tribunal is that it is quicker and cheaper and guarantees what you will receive from that agreement; rather than take a risk at a tribunal when you do not know what you will obtain. You will also need to take independent legal advice when entering into a settlement agreement.
Normally your employer will make a contribution towards your legal costs. Usually it is your employer who instigates a settlement agreement, but it may be that you wish to initiate a settlement agreement yourself and we can approach your employer on your behalf.
