The money was raised by the firm following various charity events, including dress down days, charity runs and a donation from the firm, all organised in aid of The Maria Watt Foundation.

The Maria Watt Foundation is a local charity whose aim is to promote understanding about leukaemia and other cancers that affect children, teenagers and young adults.  This was set up in 2005 by Diane Watt after the tragic loss of her daughter Maria who had planned to go to university to become a lawyer.

On receiving the cheque Diane said

The donations we receive make a difference, without the support of local businesses in our drive to improve the lives of sufferers of leukaemia and their families we would not be able to deliver the services necessary for the community.

Sydney Mitchell LLP has been supporters of the Maria Watt Foundation over a number of years and we are happy they continue to support our charity and our fundraising activities.  Their support helps us to make a difference to people’s lives; thank you to everyone at Sydney Mitchell for this support.

I was also totally overwhelmed by the amount that the Sydney Mitchell team have raised for The Maria Watt Foundation. I am very grateful for everyone's support. We recently introduced Beads of Courage into Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. The initial set up costs for a hospital are £2,500 and if the firm have no objections, I would like to be able to include Sydney Mitchell as sponsor of the QMC programme. These funds will directly support around 100 children during their cancer treatment this year. Many of the children who receive treatment at QMC also receive treatment at Birmingham Children's Hospital and the continuity of the programme is amazing!

Sarah Archer, Finance Partner, Sydney Mitchell commented:

We are committed to helping the charity improve the lives of children and teenagers and their families as they face such an enormous challenge in dealing with an illness of this kind.
