Leading Midlands’ law firm Sydney Mitchell LLP has raised almost £3,000 so far this year including £2200 at their Annual Charity Quiz towards their target of £10,000 for the year. The firm has decided to mark the Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards win and its 250 years in business by raising funds for charity.
The Charity Quiz was held at Aston University Lakeside Conference Centre and saw 17 teams compete for the coveted Sydney Mitchell LLP Trophy. Kamal Majevadia, Partner, Sydney Mitchell was the Quizmaster for the night, pushing all teams to unleash their hidden knowledge during the night. Representatives from Sydney Mitchell’s nominated charities attended; Diane Watt from the Maria Watt Foundation and Eileen Rock from the Birmingham Women’s Hospital.
The winning team was Cornwall Street Chambers Team 1 who pipped Merito Financial Services to the post by just one point. Third prize was awarded to Lloyds TSB.

Sydney Mitchell’s chosen charities for 2013 are the Tiny Babies Appeal for Birmingham Women’s Hospital raising funds for specialist neonatal equipment and the Maria Watt Foundation raising funds for teenagers and children with cancer.

Maria Watt Foundation raises funds to support specific projects such as the recent development of a Teenage Cancer Unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. They are also actively involved in raising awareness of the early signs of childhood cancer working with schools and GPs. Support is also given to the Beads of Courage Programme which helps to decrease illness related stress through using positive coping strategies to help children suffering serious illness.
